Why Journaling is Good for our Mental Health

We all have days were we are not in the best mood and need a way to escape or express ourselves, without negative insight from family members or friends. Grab your notebook and a pen, because journaling gives you the opportunity to do just that, express your self without that negative energy. Journaling can help you with the following:

  • Manage anxiety

  • Reduce stress

  • Cope with depression

  • Prioritize your problems and fears

  • Track your symptoms on a day-to-day

  • Dive into your deep feelings without interruption

How to Start Journaling

  1. Purchase a notebook and pen.

  2. Schedule time to journal everyday.

  3. Write or draw your feelings and date every entry.

Note: Your journal is for you only, ensure you allow yourself to open up and write freely without worrying about spelling or punctuation.

Double Back

At the end of the week or year, you can always revert back to your entries to see how far you've come from the type of feelings you've had. It gives you the ability to manage your issues and try to understand what triggered those reactions and how you can cope with them going forward.

My Personal Journaling Experience

I love writing so journaling comes easily. I write entries everyday, whether its an actual paragraph or just pictures about my mood. Sometimes my entries are very positive, while others describe the stress and overwhelmingness I feel from work and life. I always revert back to my entries to see if their is a pattern or if my feelings have changed. During my scheduled journaling sessions I've noticed that I'm more relaxed, my mind has been cleared, and I'm able to reveal my most private thoughts without a negative reflection of who I am as an individual.
